Les cinquante années qui suivent la confédération canadienne représentent l'âge d'or de Montréal, la période ou la ville consolide son titre de métropole du Canada. Montréal étend alors son influence à toute les sphères de la société Québécoise et devient le moteur économique et culturel du Québec.

C'est à cette période que le baseball, sport national des Américains, fait son apparition dans la ville.

The first fifty years that followed the Canadian Confederation are generally considered as Montreal's Golden Age, a time when the city consolidated its title as Canada's metropolis. Montreal extended its influence to all parts of Quebec society and became the economic and cultural motor of the Province.

It was at that time that baseball, the American National Pastime, made its first appearance in Montreal.
